Devil's Food Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder sifted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup prepared hot coffee
  • 1 cup canola oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325 F. Grease and lightly flour (2) 9-inch round cake pans. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together dry ingredients.
  3. Stir in coffee, oil, and buttermilk and mix just until combined.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla and mix until combined.
  5. Pour batter into prepared baking pans.
  6. Bake on the middle rack for 30 minutes. (may need more or less time)
  7. Let cakes cool in pans until pans are cool enough to touch, and then remove cakes and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.
